TikTok Ramps up Campaign Towards Digital Safety in Kenya! TikTok, a social networking app, claims it has stepped up campaigns in Kenya to ensure digital safety and education among the country’s youth.

In partnership with Eveminet, the app launched ‘Safer Together’ workshops across the country in October last year, with the goal of creating a safe environment on the app for the country’s youth.

So far, the ‘Safer Together’ program has engaged 116,355 people, including students, parents, and educators from 21 of Kenya’s 47 counties.

The seminars, which offer both in-person and virtual learning experiences, provide a unique blend of hybrid sessions that educate and empower youngsters with vital digital safety skills in their communities.

“Our dedication to safety in Kenya goes beyond present accomplishments. From April to September 2024, we intend to reach the remaining 26 counties, providing nationwide access to critical digital safety instruction. “We have done extensive work and will continue to do so to ensure that our community has a safe app experience,” said Fortune Mgwili-Sibanda, TikTok’s Director of Government and Public Policy for Sub-Saharan Africa, in a statement.

TikTok has prioritised youth, particularly teens, who make up the majority of its users, claiming that the effort resulted in the development of a Youth Council.

The Council, made up of 15 teens aged 15 to 18 from various nations, including two from Kenya, aims to ensure that young views are heard in TikTok’s decision-making processes.

The Council’s 15 members represent the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Indonesia, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, and Morocco.

TikTok, on the other hand, stated that it is unable to disclose the identities of the selected Global Youth Council representatives for safety reasons.

The Youth Council, which first met in December 2023, has finished its second meeting, with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew in attendance.
