Two cousins’ lives were tragically cut short a day before schools reopened while heading home from Kariminu Dam in Kiambu County

Their motorbike was hit from behind before rolling on the tarmac road, as reported by the police at the scene

The two, Jane Mugure and Francis Muiruri, both 17 years old, died while receiving treatment at Thika Level Five Hospital

A family in Kanjuku village in Gatundu South in Kiambu is mourning the death of their two members, which happened a day before schools were reopened.

The tragic accident occurred at Mang’u Flyover when a motorbike hit them from behind. According to police at the scene, the collision caused them to roll on the tarmac before hitting another vehicle.

The two cousins, identified as Francis Muiruri and Jane Mugure, both 17 years old, were on a motorbike as passengers their tragic end. The two were students at Kanjuku Secondary, with Muiruri in Form Four and Mugure in Form Three. They were heading home from Kariminu Dam.

What happened at the scene?

In a narration by their cousin Brian Mburu, as reported by Citizen Digital, he fainted after the accident when he saw the status of his two cousins lying in blood before he called out for help from his grandfather.

“I went unconscious after the accident. When I woke up, I saw Francis and Jane bleeding. I called for help from our grandfather. Looking at them, Jane looked very bad, while Muiruri was calling out God’s name,” Mburu said.

Family calls on Kiambu County government

The devastated family said their teenage kins lives would have been saved if the two nearby facilities could have had someone to attend to them.

“If only Mbau health Centre in Kiambu there was no one to attend to them, while at Igegania Level Four hospital, the security guard refused to open the gate for us, and so we rushed to Thika Level Five, but it was already too late. These young people would probably have been saved if the two facilities we rushed them to had been operational,”,” Joe Mwaura a family member said.

The family has called upon the Kiambu government to work on straightening its health facilities to avoid losing lives. The bodies of the two cousins were taken to General Kago Morgue.

The residents further want the county’s Department of Roads to erect road signs and bumps at the place to avoid accidents in the area.
