Jasmine Triggs left her home and flew 2,400 kilometres to meet a man she had been chatting online
Her dream of a beautiful getaway turned into a nightmare when her would-be host, Jamal, stood her up
Given that he had promised to pay for her return flight, Jasmine was left stranded at the airport
Jasmine Triggs regretted making a 2,400-kilometre journey to meet a man she had been chatting with online named Jamal.
The 23-year-old had spent a week talking to the man, during which time she grew fond of him and agreed to his invitation for a date.
Jamal was to pick Jasmine at the airport
In a post on X, Jasmine revealed that she spent KSh 49,000 on a plane ticket and made the long journey to visit her online love interest.
When she landed after a five-hour flight, her dream of a memorable getaway turned into a nightmare when Jamal stood her up despite the two agreeing he would pick her up.
Jasmine’s harsh reality dawned on her when she tried calling and discovered that the man had blocked her number while she was in the air.
“A guy took me 1,500 miles (2,400 km) away only to block me and leave me at the airport,” she wrote.
Messages to Jamal didn’t go through
Her woes were compounded by Jamal’s promise to pay for her flight back home, which left her stranded.
Jasmine says the man seemed excited about her visit and even went to great lengths to clean his living room in anticipation.
However, when she arrived and none of her messages to him would go through, she knew that she’d been duped.
“All my messages were sent to everyone apart from him, so he’d obviously blocked me. I didn’t hear from him all morning, and once I landed, I called him, but I realised he’d blocked my number,” she recalled.
Jasmine took crucial lessons from experience
As luck would have it, Jasmine knew someone else who lived in the area and went over to stay for a few days.
One unanswered question is why he changed his mind after showing enthusiasm about meeting her.
“Either he thought it was funny, or he could have had a wife or girlfriend,” she concluded.
Having experienced the disappointment firsthand, Jasmine warned others about the dangers of meeting with people they’ve never met.
