Anthony Njomo Kiuno an electrician for the US Embassy in Nairobi was killed outside a lounge in Kiambu town on Saturday night.
The 35-year-old was shot in the back during a commotion that began inside the bar according to police officers.
Alfred Nganga, the owner of Quickin Louge reported the shooting incident on his building at around 3am on Saturday. The shooting incident happened outside the club and was captured by surveillance cameras facing the road.
However, the Louge made it clear that the footage would not be released to the public due to its sensitivity and was rather viewed in the presence of the deceased family and the officers before being handed over.
An official from the incident said they had been told Kiuno was a bystander when he was caught by the stray bullet. He was not the one being targeted by the bullet.
“I don’t think he was being targeted by the bullet. He was just a bystander when the incident occurred,” the official clarified.
The suspect behind the shooting was then arrested later. It is not yet clear if the man behind the shooting is authorized to be holding the gun.
Nason Kiteme age 28 was arrested minutes later in connection with the shooting.
Police added that Kiuno was shot in the back and had an exit wound on the chest.
The gun involved in the shooting was seized for ballistic tests as part of the evidence of the shooting.
Until his death, Kiuno worked as an engineer for the US Embassy.
The deceased body was transported to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
