Gikomba traders whose stalls were marked have taken legal action to stop the demolition of structures built on riparian land.
City lawyer Dunstan Omari, representing the traders, expressed that the government’s lack of goodwill is evident as the demolitions pose a significant risk of leaving many jobless.
“In the absence of an injunction, the government proceeds at its own pace, whereas if there’s one, the court halt proceedings,” Omari declared.
The traders in their revised application, assert that they have petitioned the court for protective orders to safeguard against an imminent infringement of their human rights.
‘While it’s true that some individuals encroached and constructed residential houses near the river, we should not be held accountable for the errors of others,” said a trader.
