Surrounded by a throng of enthusiastic supporters, he marched towards Parliament, their chants echoing through the streets while brandishing placards emblazoned with their demands.
Launching into a fervent tirade, Eric vehemently opposed the proposed tax hikes outlined in the Finance Bill 2024, denouncing them as unjust impositions on the shoulders of the less privileged and middle-income earners.
He criticized the government for being disconnected from the people and cautioned that the finance bill would cause widespread suffering and economic hardship.
The comedian’s actions turned chaotic when the protestors he was with started littering the main entrance of the Parliament building.
Police intervened, dispersing the protesting crowd and swiftly apprehending Eric Omondi. Undeterred, the comedian persisted in addressing the crowd through the megaphone as officers escorted him inside the Parliament building.
The Finance Bill 2024 is causing a stir with its profound implications for the nation’s economy and the daily lives of its citizens. One of its most debated aspects is the proposed taxation on personal vehicles, drawing criticism for its expected impact on the average Kenyan.
Furthermore, the Bill’s elimination of tax exemptions on capital gains from transferring title of immovable property to family trusts has sparked concerns about its fairness and equity. Critics are outspoken, labeling the Bill as punitive, echoing fears about its potential to worsen the financial strain on everyday people.
