An escaped Ugandan murder suspect accused of killing his employer in Kirinyaga has been re-arrested after fleeing police custody.
Philipino Muifi from Kiamaciri escaped from custody at a police station in Mwea West on Friday under unclear circumstances.
The 23-year-old was apprehended at the police station on May 18 for allegedly murdering a 64-year-old in November last year while working as a farmhand.
Kirinyaga Police commander Andrew Naibei stated that after launching a manhunt for Muifi, they were notified of his capture, leading to the dispatch of officers.
Following the uproar from the family members who stormed the premises demanding answers, police officers were deployed on Sunday to keep guard at the station.
Expressing shock, Calorine Wangui, the daughter of the deceased, emphasized her demand for justice and the re-arrest of the suspect, whom she had personally brought from Uganda at her own expense, only to learn from the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) that he had fled.
Despite public outcry for retribution, Muifi was swiftly escorted by special unit police officers to Kerugoya police station for questioning.
