Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has strongly condemned the significance of Limuru III meetings, citing they offer no political advantages to the Mt. Kenya region or its people.
Speaking during a news interview, Chege expressed that the meetings were to serve the desires of the leaders.
“I believe that the significance of Limuru III for both the Mt. Kenya region and Kenyans as a whole is negligible. It feels like a form of self-exposure for us Kikuyus. If the intention is genuinely community-driven, why are these meetings public? Wouldn’t it be more productive to address our concerns in private discussions?” Chege argued.
Limuru III conveners, including Martha Karua of Narc Kenya, have stated that the meeting aims to formulate a strategy to oppose the taxes proposed by the Kenya Kwanza administration and to advocate for equitable distribution of resources through the “one man one shilling” agenda.
Chege argues that the meetings lack effectiveness, pointing out that there has been no observable change since they occurred.
Her remarks surfaced just one month after the inaugural Limuru III meeting convened in Limuru, where the Haki Coalition was formed.
During the assembly, former President Uhuru Kenyatta was revealed as the head of the coalition, uniting 31 political parties under its umbrella.
Jeremiah Kioni and the organizers of Limuru III are currently planning their second and third meetings in Nyeri and Kisii counties, with backing from ODM leaders, including Raila Odinga.
