On Wednesday, auctioneers confiscated 10 vehicles belonging to Mediheal Hospital Nakuru, a facility co-owned by former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra, in an effort to recover a debt amounting to Ksh 40 million.
Jomuki Auctioneers released a list detailing the assets up for auction, including four plots of land owned by Mediheal Group Limited.
These properties, co-founded by Mishra and his wife Dr. Palavi Mishra, include a 0.2223-acre plot in the Blossom Area of Kiambaa-Kesses Division, a 10.0-acre plot at Ngeria Centre, and two plots in the Elgon View-Greenvale area measuring 1.076 acres and 1.086 acres, respectively.
According to a certain publication, one John Muthee from Tango Auctioneers revealed that an additional court order for a Ksh 13 million debt is still pending.
Mediheal Hospital’s Nakuru branch was shuttered last year following a significant financial downturn, which led to 17 doctors and other staff members going unpaid.
The hospital is part of the Mediheal Group of Hospitals, a conglomerate valued at Ksh 30 billion. Despite once having five branches with its headquarters in Eldoret, the group is now teetering on the brink of collapse due to severe financial difficulties.
The financial crisis began last year when several medical insurance companies abruptly severed their partnerships with the hospital group, causing a substantial drop in revenue.
This situation has prompted additional auctions, including one in Eldoret, where Mishra is facing further asset seizures. He described the situation as an “unfortunate witch hunt” on his Facebook page, asserting that he trusts in divine justice.
