Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, encountered a brief moment of stumble and fall on Wednesday while boarding his ceremonial parade car at Eagle Square in Abuja.
The incident occurred during the country’s Democracy Day celebrations, a significant occasion marking the restoration of democracy on June 12, 1993.
Tinubu, who was present at the stadium for the commemorative event, appeared to miss a step as he prepared to enter the vehicle designated for the ceremonial inspection of the parade. However, his security officers and aides promptly rushed to his aid, assisting him to his feet.
Despite the stumble, a video clip captured by witnesses showed President Tinubu remaining composed and unfazed. He waved to the crowd and continued with the day’s events, displaying resilience and determination.
Confirming the incident, the President’s special assistant, Dada Olusegun, described it as a minor mishap. He assured the public that President Tinubu quickly resumed his ceremonial duties after the incident.
However, comments on social media ranged from humorous to critical.
User @cheekay remarked, “I hope the vehicle is okay though, he stomped it so hard.”
@BlessingsGives commented, “United we stand, divided we fall,” while @atamacoofficial quipped, “Economy dey fall, President dey fall.”
Another user, @rosythrone, noted, “He fell like the Nigerian currency.”
