Deadly Lorry Crash on Kisii-Migori Highway
A horrifying accident on the Kisii-Migori Highway early this morning left a trail of devastation. Three people, including a police officer, perished in the tragedy.
Initial reports suggest that a northbound Isuzu lorry traveling towards Migori malfunctioned near Choma Choma Lounge. Investigators believe the brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control and careen off the road. The runaway vehicle slammed into three parked vehicles and two motorcycles on the roadside.
The impact was catastrophic. Three individuals lost their lives instantly. Police Constable Catherine Omusula, stationed at Nyanchwa Police Station, was among the deceased. The identity of a male pedestrian caught in the accident remains unknown, and the lorry driver was also confirmed dead at the scene.
The accident also resulted in significant injuries. Two fellow officers from Nyanchwa Police Station, Corporal Edward Akoko and Constable Robert Irungu, were injured alongside five civilians. All injured parties were rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the hospital morgue, where they await post-mortem examinations.
Local authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident. A full report detailing the cause of the brake failure and the extent of injuries sustained by the survivors is expected in the coming days.
