Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly addressed tensions and alleged conspiracies within the administration of President William Ruto. During an event in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua accused certain close allies of the President of attempting to undermine his relationship with Ruto through a clandestine WhatsApp group called “Project 22”.
Gachagua asserted that members of this group were actively plotting to remove him from his current government position by spreading discord and misinformation. He emphasized that despite these efforts, his loyalty lies solely with President Ruto and the people of Kenya, dismissing any attempts to discredit him or his work.
The Deputy President recounted how these efforts to sideline him began as early as 2022, even before President Ruto assumed office. He disclosed instances where certain politicians lobbied President Ruto to reconsider his choice of deputy, suggesting that Gachagua’s appointment would lead to failure.
Gachagua defended his controversial proposal for a one-man, one-shilling revenue-sharing formula, which some critics have accused of promoting tribalism. He countered these claims by stating that his intention is to foster national unity, and he remains steadfast in promoting equitable distribution of resources.
Gachagua’s statements highlight internal political dynamics and struggles within the ruling administration, reflecting broader power struggles and strategic maneuvering among key political figures in Kenya.
