Dorcas Rigathi, spouse to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has accepted the invite to address men living in the United Kingdom.
The event, scheduled for Sunday, June 16, 2024, underscores her commitment to advocating for boys and men and emphasizes the critical role they play in society.
In a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Rigathi highlighted the global nature of the issues affecting men and expressed her eagerness to engage with the UK audience.
“On the eve of Father’s Day, and in honour of all men, I have tonight accepted an invitation to speak to men living in the UK. The agenda for the boy and man spans across nations, and it will be an honour to share my vision and encourage everyone’s involvement in the building up of THE MAN,”
Dorcas has been a prominent advocate for the rights of boys and men in Kenya, spearheading various initiatives aimed at their development and empowerment. Her upcoming address in the UK is expected to focus on the importance of nurturing strong men to build robust families and communities. “When we have a strong man, we shall have strong families, communities, and nations,” Rigathi emphasized.
In addition to her upcoming address, Rigathi extended heartfelt wishes to all fathers and father figures, acknowledging their vital roles in society. “I also wish all fathers and father figures a Happy Father’s Day tomorrow,” she said, celebrating the day dedicated to recognizing fatherhood and the influence of fathers in nurturing and guiding the next generation.
On the other hand, Dorcas reflected on her recent engagement with a group of young men at the Nyandarua Training Centre in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, where she spent an afternoon with over 300 boys currently undergoing vocational training.
“I was elated to share an afternoon with more than 300 boys currently undergoing vocational training at the Nyandarua Training Centre in Olkalou, Nyandarua County,” she noted.
These men have undergone rehabilitation programs across various counties, including Embu, Meru, Bomet, and Kiambu, and are now being equipped with valuable skills in areas such as Building and Masonry, Housekeeping, Cosmetology, Graphic Design and Production, Fashion and Design, Agriculture, Shoemaking, Welding, and Plumbing.
“At this center, we are training and skilling them on Building and Masonry, Housekeeping, Cosmetology, Graphic Design and Production, Fashion and Design, Agriculture, Shoemaking, Welding, and Plumbing among other technical skills,” she detailed.
She also called for greater support and collaboration in facilitating job placements for these trainees, highlighting the need for a collective effort to ensure their successful reintegration into society.
“I invite more partners to collaborate and support in job placement for this cohort,” she urged, emphasizing the importance of providing opportunities for these young men to apply their newly acquired skills.
