Former Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, 4 Others Appointed To State Jobs By President Ruto
Former Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has been appointed by President William Ruto to chair the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Governing Council for a three-year term, starting June 14, 2024. NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa’s Development) focuses on sustainable development across Africa and aims to combat marginalization within the continent.
Ojaamong expressed gratitude to President Ruto for the appointment and pledged to serve Kenya diligently and impartially in his new role. His responsibilities will include coordinating NEPAD projects involving various ministries, counties, departments, agencies, development partners, and stakeholders.
Apart from Ojaamong, President Ruto also made other appointments:
- Albert Cege as chairperson of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council
- Patricia Ithau as chairperson of the Kenya Millennium Development Fund
- Bernadette Nganga as chairperson of the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board
- Professor Ratemo Waya Michieka as chancellor of Tharaka University
All appointees will serve a three-year tenure in their respective roles. Ojaamong, who previously served two terms as Busia Governor and was a Member of Parliament, transitioned his political allegiance from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza party in January.
This move underscores political realignments and the distribution of roles in Kenya’s governance under the current administration led by President William Ruto.
