University and TVET Students to Begin Funding Applications as Portal Opens
The Ministry of Educatio has announced that the application portal for scholarships and loans for students entering universities and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) institutions will officially open on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. This move is part of the Student-Centred Funding Model aimed at assisting students from the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort.
Portal Opening Date: The application portal was initially set to open on Saturday, June 15, 2024, but was postponed to Tuesday, June 18, 2024, due to adjustments in the national calendar and the declaration of a public holiday on Monday, June 17, 2024, to mark Eid Al-Adha.
Statement from Education CS Ezekiel Machogu: Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu noted that the decision to move the portal opening date was to allow Kenyans ample time to prepare and celebrate Eid Al-Adha, showing solidarity with the Muslim community.
How to Apply:
- Eligibility:
- Must have been placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
- Must be pursuing an undergraduate, diploma, craft certificate, or artisan course at an accredited public university or TVET college in Kenya.
- Application Process:
- Visit the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal: Launched on July 31, 2023, by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, this portal is designed for individual applications for scholarships, loans, and bursaries.
- Submission: Applications should be made soon after receiving admission letters from the respective institutions.
Parent and Student Assurance: The Ministry of Education has assured parents and students that sufficient time will be provided to allow all eligible students to apply for funding.
Funding Model Objective: The Student-Centred Funding Model aims to channel higher education funds directly to individual students based on specific criteria, ensuring that the financial aid reaches those who need it most.
