A shocking viral video showing a father violently caning his eight-year-old son has ignited widespread outrage and launched a full-scale manhunt by local authorities.
The man, identified as Kenneth Otieno, fled his Nakuru home early Friday, June 21, taking the child with him and raising concerns for the boy’s safety.
In the distressing footage, Otieno is seen using a belt to beat his son and, at one point, even removing the child’s clothes to continue the assault.
This brutal act has led to a public outcry and calls for swift justice.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that Otieno managed to escape after becoming aware of an impending arrest due to his location being shared online by concerned citizens.
“Unfortunately, getting wind that the police were hot on his trail, the man identified as Kenneth Otieno disappeared with the young boy in the wee hours of today morning, just moments before our detectives knocked at his door in Nakuru,” DCI boss Mohamed Amin said in a statement.
Authorities are deeply concerned for the boy’s welfare, given the severe mistreatment evident in the video. The police are urging the public to assist in locating Otieno and rescuing the child.
“We appeal to anyone who has information that could assist in rescuing the kid to share with us by reporting at any police station or call our #FichuakwaDCI hotline 0800 722 203,” added Amin.
The exact reasons behind Otieno’s actions remain unclear, though in the video, he is heard questioning his son about not following instructions, skipping school, and general indiscipline.
