Attorney General Justin Muturi’s son, Leslie Muturi released Sunday evening after reportedly being detained for hours following an alleged arrest.
The 40-year-old businessman was taken to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) offices in Upper Hill, where he was held and questioned.
According to a family spokesman, Leslie was released around 6:30 pm after his family was notified of his detention and subsequent release.
The incident was first made public by Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje on Saturday night, June 22. Mwenje, who is a close friend of Leslie, revealed that they had been driving separately alongside other friends in Nairobi’s Kilimani area when Leslie’s car was intercepted by individuals believed to be police officers.
According to Mwenje, Leslie was forced out of his blue SUV, which was found on the roadside with its doors and boot yanked open, and taken away in a Land Cruiser by men dressed in black combat gear.
The motives behind this unusual arrest remain unclear, and there has been no official statement from the authorities explaining why Leslie was detained or by whom.
