Shad Khalif was abducted on Sunday evening as the ongoing protests against the controversial Finance Bill 2024 took a disturbing turn.
Khalif was forcibly taken from a shopping center in South B, Nairobi with a black double-cab pickup and a white Toyota Prado, which had been trailing him.
The prominent critic of the proposed taxes and a popular social media figure known for his outspoken opposition to the bill was seized by men believed to be plainclothes detectives.
His abduction has raised alarms among his family and friends, who reported that he was taken by unknown individuals who had been following him in the area.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the protest movement, with many fearing that Khalif’s disappearance is part of a broader crackdown on those opposing the bill.
Khalif had recently gained attention for his vocal criticism of the Finance Bill and had participated in interviews where he insisted that the protest movement was organic and self-financed.
