The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president, Faith Odhiambo, has issued an urgent call for the release of Paul Mwangi Wambui, a youth who was abducted early this morning in the Githurai area of Nairobi.
In a post on her official X account, Odhiambo highlighted the growing concern over a series of abductions in the country and demanded immediate action.
“Paul Mwangi Wambui, also known as Jiji, was taken at 5 a.m. in Githurai. This must come to an end! Release Paul immediately!”
This call to action comes just hours after President William Ruto addressed the issue of abductions during a media roundtable at State House, Nairobi.
When questioned about the spate of abductions, President Ruto emphasized that the police have been conducting arrests, not abductions, and that individuals reported missing have been located at various police stations.
“Let me tell you, I am the President and I speak for the government of Kenya. I made three commitments when I came to office. First, I ensured that the police are independent. Second, I promised that there would be no extrajudicial killings in Kenya, and I have upheld that promise. Third, I stated that any police arrest does not amount to an abduction,” Ruto asserted.
Despite the president’s reassurances, the abduction of Paul Mwangi Wambui and others has fueled public outcry and concern. Odhiambo’s call for an immediate halt to these incidents reflects a broader sentiment of insecurity and a demand for greater accountability from law enforcement agencies.
