Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi’s Timba XO was stormed and vandalised during the anti-finance bill protests
It was targeted due to Sudi’s support for Financial Bill 2024 despite facing uproar from most Kenyans
During investigations, the court found out that the suspects destroyed property worth KSh 80 million
Uasin Gishu – Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi shut down his Timba XO Club just two months after its grand opening, leading to the dismissal of 200 employees.
The decision came in the aftermath of a violent incident where protesters stormed the multimillion-dollar establishment, vandalising windows and looting property worth millions of Kenyan shillings.
The protesters’ anger was directed at Sudi’s stance on the Finance Bill 2024, which was later withdrawn by President William Ruto.
Sudi had been a vocal supporter of the bill, despite widespread opposition among Kenyans.
How much was stolen from Sudi’s club?
Following investigations, the Eldoret High Court determined that at least 16 individuals were involved in the destruction and charged them with breaking into the club and stealing alcohol valued at KSh 78 million.
The court also noted damages to property totalling KSh 80 million during the youth-led protests against the finance bill.
Bail decisions for the accused are pending, as their lawyers declined virtual pleas on their behalf.
