Kenyan artists Bien and Breeder have released a powerful new song titled ‘Maandamano’ (‘Protests’), resonating deeply with the ongoing wave of demonstrations led by Generation Z in response to the Finance Bill 2024.
The bill has sparked widespread controversy and public outcry, particularly among the youth who feel burdened by its measures.
Released on Monday across major streaming platforms, ‘Maandamano’ has swiftly become an anthem for the youth protesters.
The song’s compelling beats and poignant lyrics capture the frustrations and aspirations of young Kenyans who have been actively participating in demonstrations across the country.
“The song ‘Maandamano’ is a call to action, a reflection of the collective anger and determination of our generation. We wanted to create something that speaks directly to the heart of those on the streets, fighting for a fairer and more just Kenya,” Bien expressed.
Bien and Breeder, renowned for their socially conscious music, crafted ‘Maandamano’ to amplify the voices of the marginalized and to shed light on issues affecting everyday Kenyans.
Breeder, in particular, criticizes deep-rooted corruption within the country and condemns the actions of the police during the protests, where several peaceful demonstrators lost their lives.
