Medical interns who have been protesting outside Afya House since Monday braved the Tuesday rains and vowed to continue their vigil amid biting cold weather.
The law requires these interns to undergo 13 months of training before they can be licensed to practice, but they have yet to be deployed.
Armed with umbrellas and raincoats, the interns, comprising dental, medical, and pharmacy trainees, pledged to stay until their demands are met. Waving the Kenyan flag and chanting songs, they showed their determination to have their voices heard.
Capitol Hill Police Station OCS Jane Thuita pleaded with the medical interns to end their protest as the stipulated time for picketing was between 6am to 6pm. However, the interns said they had no reason to leave as they had planned to stay till midnight.
Their primary demand is for Health CS Susan Nakhumicha to address them at Afya House and issue their posting letters as per the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The interns have vowed to continue their protests until their deployment concerns are resolved.
