The Wiper Party has taken decisive action against Daadab MP Farah Maalim following his alleged remarks concerning the Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations, distancing itself and announcing disciplinary measures against him.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) denounced Maalim’s conduct as contrary to the party’s principles and values.
“They go against our guiding principles and values as a party. NEC decides that Farah Maalim be de-whipped from all Committees in Parliament including the Speaker’s Panel. NEC also recommends expulsion from the Party to the National Delegates Convention (NDC) – the party’s supreme organ,” Wiper stated.
Maalim, who also serves as Wiper’s deputy Party leader, has been summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to appear before it on Thursday, July 11, regarding his alleged remarks on the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024.
“The summons is in accordance with Section 27 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act No. 12 of 2008 which empowers NCIC to summon witnesses and call for the production of documents, and to examine witnesses and parties on oath,” NCIC clarified.
NCIC emphasized that failure to comply with the summons constitutes an offence under Section 63 (c) as read with Section 63 (e) of the NCI Act.
The controversy surrounding Maalim erupted after a video surfaced showing him allegedly threatening to ‘slaughter 5000 Gen Z protesters’ if he were President of Kenya. Despite Maalim’s defense that the video was edited and misrepresents his views, calls for his arrest and prosecution have intensified among Kenyans.
