President Ruto Fires All Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General
President William Ruto has announced the immediate dismissal of all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General, sparing only the Deputy President and the Prime Cabinet Secretary. The announcement was made during a national address from State House Nairobi on Thursday afternoon. President Ruto cited a need for a holistic appraisal of the cabinet’s performance and the feedback from the Kenyan populace as the driving reasons behind this decision.
In his address, President Ruto mentioned that the dismissal was carried out under the constitutional powers granted to him by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act. He emphasized his intention to consult extensively across various sectors and political formations to establish a broad-based government that is lean, cost-effective, and efficient.
The president pledged to form a new team to assist in accelerating the implementation of radical programs aimed at addressing national issues such as debt management, job creation, resource optimization, and corruption elimination. This move comes nearly two years after President Ruto appointed the 24-member Cabinet on October 26, 2022.
