In a significant shake-up within the Kenya Police Service, Inspector General Japhet Koome has tendered his resignation.
This development was confirmed on July 12, 2024, by President William Ruto, who has promptly accepted Koome’s resignation.
“His Excellency Hon William Samoei Ruto, PhD, CGH, President and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, has on this 12th day of July, 2024, accepted the resignation of Eng. Japheth N. Koome, MGH, as the Inspector General of the National Police Service,” a statement from the President’s office read.
Following Koome’s departure, Deputy-Inspector General Douglas Kanja will step in as the acting Inspector General, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in the leadership of the National Police Service.
