In Kenya, the process for appointing Cabinet Secretaries is outlined in the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. Here are the key steps involved in the appointment process:

  1. Nomination by the President:
    • The President nominates individuals to serve as Cabinet Secretaries. These nominees must be vetted and approved by the National Assembly.
  2. Approval by the National Assembly:
    • The nominees are subjected to a rigorous vetting process by the National Assembly. This includes public participation, where members of the public can provide input on the suitability of the nominees.
    • The relevant committee in the National Assembly reviews the qualifications, experience, and integrity of the nominees.
    • The committee then submits a report to the entire National Assembly, recommending whether to approve or reject the nominees.
  3. Appointment by the President:
    • Once the National Assembly approves the nominees, the President formally appoints them as Cabinet Secretaries.
  4. Swearing-In:
    • The appointed Cabinet Secretaries take an oath of office before they can officially assume their roles.

The process is designed to ensure that the appointed Cabinet Secretaries are qualified and have the integrity required to serve in the Kenyan government.
