Following President William Ruto’s sweeping dismissal of Cabinet Secretaries, according to the Kenyan Constitution, he must now nominate new candidates for the vacant positions.
These nominations will be subject to approval by the National Assembly after undergoing a vetting process by parliamentary committees.
Each nominee must meet the criteria set out in the Constitution and take the oath of office before assuming their duties.
Article 152(3) stipulates that the National Assembly must approve or reject the nominees within 21 days.
Cabinet Secretaries must only be nominated based on their qualifications, experience and ability to perform the functions of the office.
