Shock and disbelief gripped the residents of Mukuru slums in Nairobi on Friday following the grim discovery of nine human bodies at a dumpsite in the area.
The bodies, wrapped in sacks and dumped unceremoniously, presented a harrowing scene that has left the community reeling.
According to preliminary investigations by the police, eight of the bodies were women, and their conditions varied from fresh to severely decomposed. Some of the bodies exhibited burns, suggesting they may have met a violent end elsewhere before being disposed of near Kware Police Station.
The distressing find was initially made by local youths around midday on Friday, July 12, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Nairobi police arrived at the scene to assist in recovering the bodies and transferring them to the city mortuary for identification and autopsy.
The unsettling revelation comes amidst ongoing investigations into missing persons cases following last month’s anti-tax protests in the country. Families have reported individuals missing, some of whom have tragically been found deceased in mortuaries, while others remain unaccounted for.
The bodies have been moved to the City mortuary in Nairobi, as the search gets underway.
