In a recent address, President William Ruto of Kenya called upon the American Ford Foundation to cease its sponsorship of demonstrations in Kenya.

President Ruto expressed his concerns regarding the foreign influence on local affairs, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Kenya’s sovereignty and the need for homegrown solutions to the nation’s challenges.

He highlighted the disruptive impact these funded protests have had on the country’s stability and development.

President Ruto’s remarks come at a time when Kenya is navigating complex socio-political dynamics.

The demonstrations, he argues, have often escalated tensions and diverted attention from critical development goals.

By urging the Ford Foundation to withdraw its financial support, Ruto aims to reduce external interference and promote a more constructive and peaceful approach to addressing Kenya’s internal issues.

The Kenyan leader also pointed out that while the right to peaceful protest is fundamental, the involvement of foreign entities in sponsoring such activities can undermine the democratic process.

He called for greater transparency and accountability from international organizations operating within Kenya, stressing that their contributions should align with the country’s long-term objectives and not foment discord.

This appeal to the Ford Foundation underscores a broader narrative of African leaders advocating for increased autonomy and reduced dependency on external actors.

President Ruto’s stance reflects a growing sentiment among many African nations seeking to chart their own course and develop indigenous solutions tailored to their unique contexts.
