Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua on Tuesday lauded Generation Z for what she described as their pivotal role in awakening the nation to issues of accountability and governance.
In a passionate address, Karua expressed her admiration for the courage young Kenyans are demonstrating in holding both political and religious leaders to account.
“I’m so grateful to be alive at a time like this to witness what is happening in this country. Gen Z is waking up the country to reclaim our agencies because it’s like we lost our agency, our voices, and Gen Z has done it better than we ever did it as politicians,” Karua stated.
Reflecting on past efforts, Karua noted that last year, politicians tried to draw attention to critical issues such as the cost of living and the need for accountability.
“Gen Z has told the church to be accountable, to preach the gospel and be the first to adhere to the gospel they preach,” Karua remarked, highlighting the group’s fearless stance even towards religious institutions.
Karua praised the youth for initiating a much-needed conversation about accountability that previous generations had hesitated to start, particularly with the church.
She emphasized the formidable unity of Gen Z, stating, “They cannot dare confront Gen Z because if they all ganged up together, they could finish you.”
The veteran politician observed that the demands for accountability have raised the bar for leadership standards, not just in politics but across all sectors.
“They are saying, ‘Hey, wait a minute, who does the state serve, the political elite or the masses? That is the question—be accountable to us. We are the owners of the state. We are sovereign.'”
