Veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho has extended a heartfelt invitation to social media influencer Francis Gaitho for a drink, following a case of mistaken identity that led to Macharia Gaitho’s violent arrest by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers.
The incident unfolded when Macharia Gaitho, accompanied by his son, was forcibly taken to Karen Police Station after individuals attempted to abduct him outside his home.
He recounted that the individuals did not identify themselves and arrived in a convoy of two cars.
Later clarification from DCI Director Mohamed Amin revealed that the arrest was indeed a case of mistaken identity.
“We are sorry to Gaitho. It was a case of mistaken identity,” Amin stated, clarifying that they were actually seeking social media influencer Francis Gaitho.
In response to the confusion, Macharia Gaitho publicly addressed Francis Gaitho via social media, expressing his hope for the influencer’s safety.
“Ngarana @FGaitho237 I don’t know you. We’ve never met. We don’t share house, car or phone. We happen to share a name, and now, thanks to @DCI_Kenya, maybe a common destiny. I pray you are safe. Lets share a drink soon,” Macharia Gaitho tweeted.
In a surprising turn, Francis Gaitho announced his intention to present himself at the DCI Headquarters later that day, presumably to clarify his identity and resolve any misunderstandings stemming from the incident.
“I will be presenting myself at DCI Headquarters, Mazingira House Kiambu Road at 2pm today. Thank you all for your concern,” he said.
