A video circulating on social media purporting to show President William Ruto being booed at in Bomet has been confirmed as doctored.
The clip, which was shared widely on X, depicts Ruto atop his vehicle in Bomet town with a crowd chanting “Ruto must go.”
However, upon thorough analysis by a certain media, it has been established that the footage was manipulated to falsely represent dissent.
Ruto was in Sotik, Bomet County on Sunday for a church service but did not make a stop in Bomet town.
The event concluded at Chebango AGC church before Ruto flew directly back to Nairobi.
The video in question, which has been misrepresented as recent, actually dates back to March 16, 2024, when the President was in the county for the launch of development projects in Chepalungu and Bomet town.
The video from March 16 shows Ruto in a white trouser and cap, and a checkered blue and white shirt—attire that matches the clothing in the manipulated footage.
Some social media users have pointed out the inconsistencies in the video and sound, suggesting that it was edited from an earlier incident in Nyahururu.
