President William Ruto has reassigned Soipan Tuya to the Ministry of Defence, replacing Aden Duale, who will now head the Ministry of Environment.
The changes were announced as part of Ruto’s reconstituted Cabinet, with Tuya expressing her readiness to serve if confirmed.
On July 19, Ruto initially nominated Duale for the Defence docket, but the latest shuffle sees Tuya taking over Defence and Duale moving to Environment.
In a statement on X, Tuya said;
“Eternally grateful to God for His favor! I thank HE President William Ruto for nominating me to serve as Cabinet Secretary of Defence. Upon confirmation, I will give it my all, in service to the people of Kenya.”
The nominees have been referred to the Committee on Appointments, which will vet them and report to the House within 28 days.
The new Cabinet also includes Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Debra Mlongo Barasa (Health), Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport), Eric Muuga (Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation), Julius Migosi (Education), and Andrew Mwihia Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development).
Alice Wahome will head Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, while Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u is appointed to the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy.
