President William Ruto has assigned Kenya Power a new and ambitious responsibility: to provide internet access to every ward across Kenya.

This initiative aims to enhance connectivity and ensure that all Kenyans, regardless of their location, have access to reliable internet services.

By leveraging Kenya Power’s extensive infrastructure, the government hopes to bridge the digital divide and foster economic growth through improved access to information and communication technologies.

The project is expected to have a significant impact on various sectors, including education, healthcare, and business.

Schools in remote areas will benefit from enhanced online learning resources, enabling students to access a wealth of information and educational tools.

Healthcare facilities will be able to connect with specialists and access online medical resources, improving the quality of care in underserved regions.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs will also gain from improved connectivity, allowing them to reach broader markets and streamline operations through digital tools.

Kenya Power’s involvement in this initiative is seen as a strategic move, given the company’s existing network of electrical infrastructure.

By integrating internet services with their power distribution system, Kenya Power can efficiently expand internet coverage without the need for extensive new construction.

This approach not only speeds up the deployment process but also reduces costs, making it a feasible solution for widespread connectivity.

To ensure the success of this initiative, the government plans to collaborate with various stakeholders, including private internet service providers and technology companies.

This collaborative effort aims to leverage the expertise and resources of multiple parties to deliver high-quality internet services across the country.

The project will also involve training and capacity-building programs to equip local communities with the skills needed to make the most of the new digital opportunities.

Overall, President Ruto’s directive to Kenya Power marks a significant step towards achieving universal internet access in Kenya.

This initiative is poised to transform the socio-economic landscape of the country, fostering innovation, enhancing service delivery, and improving the quality of life for millions of Kenyans.
