In a significant development, the Meru High Court has decided to refer the impeachment motion against Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza to Njuri Ncheke for alternative dispute resolution.
According to court documents, Mwangaza and her legal team are required to appear before the Njuri Ncheke council on Wednesday, July 31.
The court has mandated Njuri Ncheke to submit their resolution or lack thereof within three weeks from today, Monday, July 29.
Consequently, the ruling on the matter has been postponed to August 20.
This decision follows the Meru County Assembly’s suspension of the impeachment debate on Friday, adhering to a High Court order issued on Wednesday that temporarily halted the proceedings pending further court instructions.
Governor Mwangaza had previously filed a petition challenging the impeachment motion, claiming that it was politically motivated by her adversaries.
In a statement to the Meru County Assembly on Thursday, Speaker Ayub Bundi stressed the importance of complying with the court’s directive and underscored the necessity of fairness in judicial processes.
The impeachment motion, initiated by Nominated Member and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party Zipporah Kinya, cites gross violations of the Constitution, various national and county laws, and abuse of office.
The notice of motion details multiple specific allegations against Mwangaza, including illegal appointments and dismissals, financial misconduct, and misleading the public.
