Residents of Cheribisi village in Kaplamai location, Emgwen Constituency, Nandi County, were stunned when a cow in the area gave birth to a calf missing its front legs.
The calf, which was delivered without complications, has sparked both curiosity and concern among the villagers.
William Kirui, the owner of the cow, expressed his surprise at the unusual birth, noting that the gestation period had been normal and there were no complications during delivery.
“The cow gave birth normally, and there were no complications. I didn’t use artificial insemination but a bull,” Kirui told a certain media.
Despite the shock, Kirui remained optimistic about the calf’s health and expressed his relief that the cow was in good condition.
“This is the first time I’ve witnessed such an occurrence. All my other animals have delivered without any abnormalities. We hope it’s just a fertilization issue and not a bad omen or related to witchcraft,” he added.
Area Assistant Chief Margaret Jebet described the incident as unprecedented in the area, calling it a rare case.
“The farmer is now considering transferring the calf to the Kitale Nature Conservancy, a shelter for deformed animals,” Jebet noted.
