Police are investigating a tragic incident in Manyatta Estate, Kisumu, where a man fatally stabbed his wife before taking his own life.
Felix Owiti, 32, reportedly killed his wife, Jecinta Atieno, 26, early Monday morning before committing suicide.
The horrific event unfolded around 7 a.m. when their daughter discovered the bodies and alerted a bodaboda rider who was supposed to take her to school.
The rider subsequently informed Kondele location chief Maurice Nyanga, who alerted the police.
Kisumu Central OCPD Peter Mulai confirmed the incident, stating that the police arrived promptly at the scene.
According to Mulai, Owiti used a knife to stab Atieno in the chest, resulting in her immediate death.
He then hung himself using a rope on the rooftop of their house.
The motive behind the killings remains unclear, though neighbors reported that the couple had been experiencing domestic issues.
Owiti and Atieno were employed at Osiepe bar in the Kona Legio area, where Owiti worked as a manager and Atieno as a cleaner.
The couple leaves behind three young children—two boys and one girl.
The deceased were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
