Juja MP George Koimburi has issued an apology on the floor of the House for alleging that MPs who supported the rejected Finance Bill were bribed with Sh2 million each.
Last week, Koimburi wrote to Speaker Moses Wetang’ula requesting an apology from the House and its members.
In his letter, Koimburi expressed remorse for his comments, admitting he had no evidence to substantiate his bribery claims.
“I made a mistake by saying that Members of Parliament were bribed with Sh2 million. I am here to say sorry because I don’t have any evidence,” he stated.
Speaker Wetang’ula confirmed that Koimburi had visited him and the Clerk, reiterating his admission.
In response, Gilgil MP Martha Wangari called for the House to set a precedent to prevent similar accusations in the future and urged the Powers and Privileges Committee to take action against Koimburi.
