This morning, a matatu and a mkokoteni were involved in a head-on collision at the Nyayo Roundabout. The accident occurred during the busy rush hour, causing significant traffic disruptions.

According to eyewitnesses, the matatu, a popular public transport vehicle, was traveling at a high speed when it collided with the mkokoteni, a handcart used for transporting goods.

The impact caused considerable damage to both vehicles, and the scene was chaotic as onlookers gathered.

Emergency services were quick to respond, arriving at the scene to provide assistance. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but several people sustained injuries.

The matatu’s passengers, as well as the mkokoteni operator, received immediate medical attention. Paramedics transported the injured to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The police were also present to manage traffic and investigate the cause of the accident.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety in busy urban areas.

The Nyayo Roundabout is a notorious traffic hotspot, and accidents are not uncommon. Authorities have urged drivers and other road users to exercise caution, especially during peak hours, to prevent such incidents.

They are also looking into measures to improve road safety, including better traffic management and stricter enforcement of speed limits.

As the investigation continues, the authorities will assess the damage and determine any necessary steps to prevent future accidents at this location.

In the meantime, the public is advised to stay alert and follow traffic rules to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
