Eric Muriithi Muuga, the nominee for the position of Cabinet Secretary for Water, Irrigation, and Sanitation, has disclosed his net worth as Ksh.31 million during his vetting before the Parliament’s Committee on Appointments.
The 32-year-old, who is the youngest among the current Cabinet Secretary nominees, made this declaration on Friday.
Muuga’s wealth is primarily derived from his investments in farming and land.
“My net worth is Ksh.31 million. I come from a region that is engaged in farming so I’ve invested in lands and planted crops like tea, coffee, bananas, and miraa,” Muuga explained.
He further stated that he does not own a car, a choice he attributed to his preference for investing in his farming ventures.
“I have chosen to invest instead of buying a car,” Muuga said, responding to a question from Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
During the session, Speaker Moses Wetangula inquired whether Muuga would accept a car from a major water sector contractor if offered after his appointment.
Muuga emphatically responded, “No!” assuring the committee of his commitment to integrity.
Muuga, who is registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya as a professional engineer and with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya as a corporate member, expressed a deep passion for the role.
“During my work activities, I have developed a passion to ensure that every Kenyan has access to water, which is both a human and constitutional right,” he said.
He vowed to dedicate himself to ensuring water accessibility for all Kenyans if appointed.
