Former world champion Julius Yego has secured a place in the javelin final at the Paris Olympics, achieving a remarkable throw of 85.97 meters during the qualifiers.
Yego, known for his remarkable achievements in javelin and often referred to as the ‘YouTube man,’ finished second in Group A qualifiers behind Germany’s Webber Julian, who led with a throw of 87.76 meters.
Czech Republic’s Vadlejch Jakub also made the final cut with a throw of 85.63 meters, placing third in the group.
In Group B, India’s Chopra Neeraj led with a throw of 89.34 meters, while Greneda’s Peters Anderson and Pakistan’s Nadeem Arshad also qualified for the final.
The top six from each group, along with athletes who reached the 84-meter qualification threshold, will compete in the final.
Yego, who previously won gold at the 2015 World Championships with a throw of 92.72 meters and silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics, celebrated his qualification with jubilant cheers at the Stade de France.
The Kenyan javelin legend is eager to make amends after a challenging Tokyo 2020 Olympics where he failed to register a legal throw in his first two attempts.
Yego, ranked 15th in the world, remains a strong contender as he looks to add another Olympic medal to his impressive career.
