A dramatic scene unfolded at businessman Jimi Wanjigi’s residence in the upscale Muthaiga neighborhood on Thursday evening as police surrounded his home, prompting allegations of political harassment.
The residence was encircled with yellow crime scene tape, leading to significant tension and confusion.
Wanjigi, known for his vocal political views, expressed alarm and frustration over the sudden police action.
“I am bewildered and concerned,” Wanjigi said. “
They’re outside my house, and I’m unsure of their intentions or what I’ve supposedly done.”
Wanjigi reported that police demanded entry into his home, which he described as an intrusive and unwarranted action.
The situation escalated as additional officers arrived, intensifying the standoff.
Police reports suggest that earlier in the day, Wanjigi was seen on Limuru Road with a group of individuals, allegedly distributing money.
Authorities claimed that Wanjigi evaded their attempt to apprehend him, eventually fleeing into Karura Forest.
Wanjigi has denied these allegations, branding the police raid as a baseless attempt to intimidate him due to his political stance.
The businessman took to his X platform to provide updates on the situation as the raid continued. Videos shared online showed the large police presence outside his home.
As of late evening, the police had not yet released an official statement on the matter.
