Cabinet Secretary for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Wycliffe Oparanya has issued a strong ultimatum to President William Ruto’s government, pledging to resign if his proposed strategies for the sector are not enacted.
Speaking during a church service in Western Kenya, Oparanya emphasized his commitment to improving MSMEs, drawing on his successful tenure as Governor of Kakamega County.
Oparanya’s appointment was seen as a strategic choice by President Ruto to leverage his extensive experience in local governance and economic management.
However, he made it clear that his continued role in the Cabinet depends on the government’s willingness to adopt his recommendations.
“I will help them, but when they fail to take my advice, I will resign and come back home because if you want to be assisted, you must accept.”
During his vetting by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, Oparanya committed to revolutionizing the MSME sector and promised significant changes to the hustler fund.
He vowed to establish a robust legal framework, and set up a dedicated board and staff to manage the fund effectively.
