The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has officially approved the nominations of Dorcas Oduor as Kenya’s first female Attorney General and Beatrice Askul for the position of Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development.
This decision follows their vetting on August 9, 2024.
The committee’s report confirmed the approval, stating, “This house approves of the following persons:
Beatrice Askul Moe as the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development, and Dorcas Oduor as the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya.”
Dorcas Oduor is set to succeed Justin Muturi as Attorney General, marking a historic moment for Kenya with her appointment as the first woman to hold this position.
Beatrice Askul’s nomination fills the role in the East African Community Affairs and Regional Development portfolio, reflecting a key area of focus for the government.
The approvals come shortly after the swearing-in of 19 other newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries at State House, Nairobi.
Dorcas Oduor and Beatrice Askul now await final approval by the National Assembly before their names are forwarded to President William Ruto for formal appointment.
