In a shocking development, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the prime suspect in the notorious Kware murders, has escaped from Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when police discovered that Jumaisi, along with 12 other detainees—Eritrean nationals—had broken out of custody.
The group managed to cut through a wire mesh in their cell and scaled a perimeter wall to make their escape.
Jumaisi, who is accused of killing up to 42 women, was awaiting a court appearance scheduled for Friday.
The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, confirmed the escape, stating that a fresh manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects.
“It is unfortunate this has happened, but we are pursuing the matter for action,” he said.
The escape has raised serious concerns about security at the police station, particularly given Jumaisi’s high-profile status as a suspect in multiple murders.
Senior police officers have since rushed to the scene to assess the situation as the search intensifies.
Jumaisi had been held at Gigiri Police Station after a court order extended his detention by seven days, while his co-accused were held at Muthaiga Police Station.
The police are under intense pressure to recapture the escapees and address the security lapses that allowed such a high-value suspect to flee.
