The death toll in the tragic accident that occurred early Tuesday morning in the Migaa area near Salgaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway has risen to 13.
The incident, which took place around 5 a.m., involved a PSV bus and multiple other vehicles.
Among the deceased are five women, seven men, and one infant.
The number of fatalities increased as more bodies were retrieved from the wreckage.
The bus, which was traveling from Kericho to Nakuru, reportedly lost its brakes while negotiating a steep stretch, leading it to ram into barriers and other vehicles before plunging into a ditch.
A total of 55 people were injured in the accident and have been admitted to various hospitals in the area.
Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati confirmed the incident, as rescue operations continue.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of the notorious Salgaa stretch, which has been the site of numerous accidents in the past.
