A tragic accident on Tuesday, September 3, claimed the lives of nine people on the Londiani-Muhoroni Highway in Kericho.
The fatal collision occurred in the Kipsitet area of Koguta when a 14-seater matatu (public service vehicle) collided with a heavy truck.
According to reports from the scene, the truck, a Mercedes Benz, veered out of its lane after the driver lost control, crashing into the oncoming matatu that was en route to Kisumu.
The impact of the collision was devastating, leading to the immediate death of nine individuals, including the matatu driver.
Emergency responders, including state law enforcers, quickly arrived at the scene to assist with the rescue operations and the retrieval of bodies.
The deceased were transported to the St Vincent Mission Hospital morgue, where they will await identification by their families.
Three people, including a child and two adults, miraculously survived the crash, though they sustained critical injuries of varying severity.
They were rushed to the Muhoroni Sub-County Hospital for emergency treatment.
Photos from the scene depicted a horrifying aftermath, with the matatu completely destroyed, leaving only fragments of seats to indicate that it was once a vehicle.
The wreckage was later towed to the Kipsitet Police Station for further investigation. The gruesome scene served as a somber reminder of the dangers on the road and the fragility of life.
