The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has demanded action against Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli for failing to appear in court five times.
Masengeli had been summoned by the High Court to explain the abduction of three individuals from Kitengela: siblings Jamil and Aslam Longton, and activist Bob Micheni.
The trio has been missing since August 19, with reports suggesting they were abducted by police following their involvement in protests against the now-withdrawn Finance Bill 2024.
The LSK, alongside Amnesty International, petitioned the court, accusing security forces of detaining the three without any communication.
Despite these serious allegations, Masengeli has repeatedly failed to appear before the court, citing other commitments, including attending a seminar in Mombasa.
The High Court, led by Justice Lawrence Mugambi, has ordered that he appear by 3 PM today or face severe consequences, potentially including contempt charges.
