Lamu County is in mourning following the tragic news of the passing of Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua Ndung’u.
The Deputy Governor, who had reportedly been ailing for some time, passed away on Friday, leaving the county in shock and grief.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was among the first to share the heartbreaking news, offering his condolences to the family and the people of Lamu County.
“Our sincere condolences to the great people of Lamu County following the passing of the Deputy Governor Hon Raphael Munyua Ndung’u,” Nyoro stated in a heartfelt post.
He emphasized that Ndung’u’s death is a significant loss for the county, adding, “Our thoughts are with the family.”
Deputy Governor Ndung’u had been a key figure in the political resurgence of Lamu Governor Issa Timamy.
The duo secured a triumphant return to leadership in 2022, unseating then-Governor Fahim Twaha.
Timamy had previously lost his gubernatorial seat in 2017 after serving one term, making their 2022 victory all the more significant.
President William Ruto also joined in mourning the late Deputy Governor, expressing deep sorrow over his passing.
“I am saddened by the news of the passing of the Deputy Governor of Lamu County Raphael Munyua Ndung’u,” President Ruto said.
He described Ndung’u as a “progressive leader” who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people of Lamu.
The President extended his love and prayers to the family, friends, and residents of Lamu County during this difficult time.
