Residents of Kimkasa village in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, are facing a dire infrastructure crisis that has forced them to adopt unconventional methods for transporting the deceased.
With the area’s poor road network in disrepair and worsening due to heavy rains, residents have turned to donkeys and carts to ferry coffins for burial.
In a viral video, mourners were seen transporting a coffin using a cart, typically used to haul water and other goods.
The mourners had to travel at least three kilometers through difficult terrain to reach the burial site, as vehicles are unable to access the remote areas of Kimkasa.
“Despite our repeated pleas to the local administration, no action has been taken to improve the roads,” one resident lamented. “We’ve had no choice but to adapt.”
“Using donkeys to transport bodies is common, with 10 bodies moved this way, but it’s embarrassing,” he said.
Beyond funeral logistics, other sectors in Kuresoi North are also suffering from the lack of proper infrastructure.
Essential services such as healthcare and transportation of goods have been severely disrupted, leading to widespread frustrations among residents.
Heavy rains have exacerbated the situation, making many roads completely impassable for vehicles, cutting off vital access to the community.
Calls for immediate intervention continue to mount, as residents hope for swift action to alleviate the infrastructural crisis.
